Prepare your agent for modifications or for regeneration

Modify and reinstall your agent.

To modify an existing agent definition, double-click the itm_toolkit_agent.xml file to start the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agent Editor, see (The Tivoli Monitoring Agent Editor).

If you installed your agent before you modified it, you can uninstall the existing agent before you install the new one. Alternatively you can install the new agent directly over the existing agent without uninstalling it. To uninstall the existing agent first, see the procedure in (Uninstall an agent), then regenerate and install the agent again as you did initially. If you choose to install over the existing agent, follow the steps in (Test and debugging your agent).

If you change the agent version, when you install the new version, files in the Tivoli Monitoring installation that contain the old version number are overwritten. An exception is the file that contains your agent's configuration requirements (named according to the format: product_code_dd_long_version.xml). For example, for an agent with product code, 19 and version, 6.2.3, the file is called 19_dd_062300000.xml along with the remote deployment bundle for your agent. Both of these files are added to the system alongside the old versions rather than replacing them.
