Agent-specific installation and configuration

In addition to the installation and configuration information in the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Installation and Setup Guide, use this agent-specific installation and configuration information to install the Agentless Monitor for AIX.

The Agentless Monitor for AIX uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) to remotely collect metrics from the operating system. SNMP Version 1, SNMP Version 2c, or SNMP Version 3 can be used, depending on the configuration of the AIX operating system. Requirements for AIX are:

  1. AIX 5.3 requires that Maintenance Level 5 is installed on the system to be monitored.

  2. All three SubAgent daemons (aixmibd, hostmibd, and snmpmibd) must be started to obtain the metric data required.

  3. For non-default community names, each SubAgent must be restarted with knowledge of the community name. For example:

    1. stopsrc -s hostmibd

    2. startsrc -s hostmibd -a ″-c community_name″

  4. Also, the SNMP daemon (snmpd) must be refreshed after making any of the preceding changes:

    1. refresh -s snmpd

  5. Lastly, verify that none of the SubAgent details are excluded in the /etc/snmpdv3.conf. For example, a common line to comment out is:

    1. VACM_VIEW defaultView 1.3.6.1.4.1.2.6.191 - excluded -

Commenting this line allows the aixmibd SubAgent to be included in SNMP Requests.
