Enabling security for a WebSphere Application Server v5.x
To enable security for a WebSphere Application Server v5.x test environment or server:
- Double-click your WebSphere Application Server v5.x in the Servers view to open it. The server editor opens.
- Click the Security tab at the bottom of the editor.
- To enable Java 2 security for a server, select the Enforce Java 2 security check box. Java 2 security provides a policy-based, fine-grain access control mechanism that increases overall system integrity by checking for permissions before allowing access to certain protected system resources. Java 2 security guards access to system resources such as file I/O, sockets, and properties. For more information about Java 2 security, refer to the WebSphere Application Server documentation.
- Select the Enable Security (Not supported in Windows 98 and Windows ME) check box.
- In the Server ID field and Password fields, enter the user name and password for the administrator or any user that is part of the administrator group in Windows. Repeat the password for verification.
The specified user must have the following permissions: Log on as service and Act as part of the operating system.
To test this setting, start the server. In the Console view find the message Security enabled true which indicates security should be enabled.
The specified user must be logged on as root.
Note: When enabling security for a server, do not give it a server ID that has the same name as the machine where WebSphere Application Server is installed. Otherwise, the server may fail to start.
