Process views in the Process Browser window
Review these key concepts relating to the use and configuration of process views.
A process view is the hierarchical set of process elements represented and displayed by the Process Browser window in a tree view, and associated with a particular role or major category. The available process views for a given Rational Unified Process (RUP) Configuration are represented by a tabbed set of views displayed on the Process Views page.
You can manage the views of RUP process elements using a number of buttons available on the Process Browser toolbar:
- Toggle Show All Views: toggle between showing a single tabbed process view, or the entire set of available process views.
- Save: save any changes you make to your process views.
- Save as: create a new process view by saving an existing view under a new name.
- Insert Node: insert a content node into a given context.
- Add Node from Default: add a node from the default RUP configuration.
- Delete View: delete a process view.
Create a RUP Configuration
Configuring the RUP methodology is a matter of sizing the process to match the needs of a specific organization or individual project. It involves selecting the right set of process components and providing appropriate views into this configuration to hide parts of the process that are irrelevant for certain user-groups.
To define a customized process view for your organization, you may want to consider making the following changes:
- Add, expand, modify, or remove steps in activities.
- Add checkpoints to the review activities based on experience.
- Add guidelines, based on discoveries made in past projects.
- Add tool mentors as needed.
