Profiling portals

Profiling portals on the local test server environment allows you to gather run time statistics and analyze performance.

To profile a portal project locally, you will need to install and start the Rational Agent Controller on the local system. Agent Controller can be installed from the Rational Application Developer launchpad. You will profile the portal project using a local WebSphere Portal Test Environment server. Profiling portals with a Server Attach server is not directly supported. However, the same function is available by publishing a portal on an external WebSphere Portal server, then using the Profiling functions of Rational Developer.

To profile a portal project locally:

  1. From the Project Explorer view, highlight a portal project and select Profile > Profile on Server .

  2. To use an existing server, select Choose an existing server and choose a WebSphere Portal Test Environment from the list.

  3. To define a new local test server, see Configuring local servers for testing portals.

  4. Click Finish. After the server starts in profile mode and the portal is deployed, the Web browser that you defined opens to the URL of the portal application on the local server. The profiling and logging perspective opens, allowing you profile your portal project.
