Content libraries for site templates

Selecting a content library for a site template on the Content Library page assigns a default selection for any sites created from the template. Your choice has implications for site creation and for importing site templates.

The existing portal content library, Portal Site, stores all managed pages created with IBM Web Content Manager, If we select this option and the page templates use embedded page templates stored in the Portal Site library, website creators cannot choose another library when they use the site template. They must create their website in the Portal Site library on the server.

If we select a library that uses embedded page templates stored in the Portal Site library, no one can export the site template to another server. This restriction prevents conflicts between duplicate page templates on the original and the target server.

Deciding between creating a content library or selecting an existing one for a site template depends on how the organization manages content. Some organizations manage similar content in shared libraries. Other organizations prefer to create a content library for each site. Website creators can change the default selection to any other selection, including using the Portal Site library.

If we set guidelines for content library usage and management at the organization, inform website creators so they can follow those guidelines.
