Consuming a remote portlet

We can select to consume Web services from Producers as remote portlets. You do this using the Manage Web Modules portlet.

To consume a remote portlet:

1. Click the Consume button. The list of Producers is displayed.

2. Select a Producer. We can search to locate a particular Producer. When we select the Producer, the list of Web services provided bthat Producer is displayed.

3. Select a Web service you want consume as a remote portlet. We can search to locate a particular portlet.

4. Click OK to continue, or Cancel to quit.

When a Producer provides a portlet, the portlet itself is provided, not an instance of it. Therefore only settings made in the Configure mode of the portlet are available at the consumed remote portlet. Adding a remote portlet to a page on the Consumer side creates a new instance of the provided portlet on the Producer side. But this instance can only be modified on the Consumer and is not visible on the Producer portal.
