Share content
With mashup integration the portal makes sharing pages and other content among users easier.
Previously a portal user who wanted to share a page with other users had to create that page as a non-private page and then make it available to other users. This often required a dedicated user with the appropriate access rights to perform these tasks. Users see the shared page in the same place in the portal navigation where the user who created the page placed it.
With mashups integration users can create pages and share them with other users without requiring the access rights to create non-private pages. The users with whom a page was shared do not immediately see that page in their navigation, as the original page was created as a private page. However, they can explicitly accept the shared page by using the appropriate UI dialog and add them to a place of their choice in their personal navigation area.
When a user shares a page, the user can also grant access right to users with whom the page is shared:
Deleting a page can affect other users, depending on who deletes the page:
- View: With view rights the other viewers can only view the shared page.
- Edit: This is equivalent to the Edit shared settings that is available in the portal. When users with edit right modify the shared page, their changes become visible to all users that accepted the page, and also to the user who shared the page. This applies to changes made to both the layout and the widget settings.
- If the user who created and shared a page deletes the shared page from the navigation, the page and all of its children disappear. For users who accepted the shared page and placed it in their navigation, the page turns into a resource similar to a label. The page remains to show in the navigation, but its content is no longer shown.
It is recommended to delete shared pages one by one. Example: If a user created and shared a page p1, and then deletes the parent of that page, the user implicitly deletes p1 with the parent. Users who accepted p1 can still view the page. If the owner of p1 wants to remove the page from the view of other users, the owner also needs to accept p1 and then delete it. This action results in the behavior as described above.
- If a user who accepted a page deletes the page from the navigation, the page and all of its children disappear for that user. This does not affect the navigations of the other users who accepted the page.
