Configure the IBM License Metric Tool on Windows

IBMLicense Metric Tool (LMT) monitors license compliance. It recognizes and monitors what product offerings and their versions, releases, and fix packs are installed and used on the system.

Before configuring LMT, WebSphere Portal must be installed and configured, including security.

Configure IBM License Metric Tool:

  1. Download the IBM License Metric Tool agent and install it on each server that has IBM WebSphere Portal installed. See Passport Advantage for instructions on downloading the IBM License Metric Tool agent, prerequisites, and licensing process.

  2. Complete the following steps to provide credentials to IBM License Metric Tool:

    1. Open a command prompt.

    2. Change to the IBM License Metric Tool install directory: agent_home/wasagent.

    3. Run the following task to start the WebSphere agent: WASAgentClient.bat

    4. Enter servers to list the WebSphere server IDs and locations.

    5. Enter credentials id userid password to provide credentials for the servers. Where id is the server ID and userid and password correspond to the WAS administrator user ID and password.

Whenever the IBM TivoliLicense Compliance Manager agent is stopped, rerun the WASAgentClient task and then reissue the credentials.

    6. Perform any additional configuration tasks after installation. See the following topic for instructions: Configure IBM License Metric Tool

  3. Follow the IBM License Metric Tool instructions provided with customer agreement to complete the IBM License Metric Tool licensing configuration for WebSphere Portal and IBM Web Content Manager.

  4. Ensure that the appropriate inventory signature file exists in the $PORTAL_HOME/installer/wp.config/itlm directory path. The file that is present will depend on license agreement and will have a general format of ITLMproductversion_number.sys2.

Only one filename.sys2 signature file can exist per product offering. Refer to the following table to determine the correct signature file. If additional signature files exist, rename them from filename.sys2 to filename.example. The required signature file is available on its product installation CD. Table 1. Product signature files

Product offering / Component name IBM Tivoli License Manager signature file Signature file's directory path
IBM WebSphere Portal Extend Limited Use 6.1 TLMPELU0601.SYS2 the UserData path of directory $PORTAL_HOME/installer/wp.config/itlm

  5. Verify that the itlm.product file exists in the $PORTAL_HOME/version directory.

  6. Verify that the WebSphere Portal installation updated the .ITLMRegistry file, in the user_home directory, to contain the WebSphere Portal installation directory path.
