Business portlets

Business portlets are automatically installed and may be displayed on a page after WebSphere Portal is installed and started.

Most of the business portlets are also available on the IBM WebSphere Portal Business Solutions catalog.
IBMi: The following portlets are automatically installed after the portal is installed using the Install and Configure option of the remote GUI install.

Application Description
Welcome Shows version and copyright for WebSphere Portal installed.
Reminder The IBM Reminder Portlet enables users to create, save, and display brief text reminders on their portal pages. Users can change the appearance of the reminders and sort them by urgency or due date. Users can add, edit and delete reminders, as well as highlight overdue reminders in bold. Users can also assign each reminder a priority and icon category (for example, a birthday reminder will display a cake and candle icon next to the text).
Banner Ad Banner Ad enables users to insert and view an image on a portal page. This image can be hyperlinked to a web page. This web page can be specified to open either in the same or a new browser window. The Banner Ad portlet verifies that a URL has been entered for a particular image, but does not verify the validity of the URL.
Document Viewer The Document Viewer application enables users to conveniently browse Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and rich text documents. This application consists of five portlets:

  • Word Document Viewer Portlet

  • Excel Document Viewer Portlet

  • PowerPoint Document Viewer Portlet

  • PDF Document Viewer Portlet

  • Rich Text Document Viewer Portlet
The documents can be viewed either within the portlet or in another window. Users can also modify the size of the display area if they browse within the portlet. Adobe Acrobat Reader and the Web browser plug-in for the PDF viewer are required. You need the corresponding viewer application to use the Word, Excel, and PowerPoint document viewers. The Rich Text File Viewer only supports Internet Explorer and requires a Word viewer at the minimum.
Microsoft Exchange 2003 Portlet Application The Microsoft Exchange 2003 Portlet Application connects to an Exchange server. This portlet application contains the following portlets:

  • MS Exchange 2003 Mail Portlet

  • MS Exchange 2003 Calendar Portlet

  • MS Exchange 2003 Tasks Portlet

  • MS Exchange 2003 Contacts Portlet

  • MS Exchange 2003 Notes Portlet
See the catalog documentation for the configuration settings and limitations of this portlet application.
My Query Reports (SQL) My Query Reports portlet executes and displays the results of SQL queries submitted by the user. Users can also save SQL queries for later use. This portlet displays a list of SQL queries that the user had previously defined in the portlet Edit mode. Users can create, update, and test queries in the portlet Edit mode. Further, a user can select a query for execution. The portlet executes the query and displays the results in a table. Users can sort the result columns by clicking the links in the table headers. This portlet needs possible network access to the Database for SQL queries. It also requires JDBC drivers for the SQL queries in the system classpath.
Web2Bookmarks This portlet enables you to bookmark and organize both internal portal pages and external web sites. These bookmarks can be organized using folders. This is a sample, AJAX portlet that demonstrates the use of client side aggregation. This portlet is not supported and is provided as is.
IBM Syndicated Feed Portlet for WebSphere Portal This portlet enables you to integrate, view, and manage RSS and ATOM feeds from the portal pages. You can organize the feeds into new and existing feed categories and extensively customize the presentation style for these feeds. The portlet is supported in a proxied environment and enables dynamic modification of the portlet window title. As an Administrator, you can configure several administrative settings from within the portlet interface and apply selective locks on a user's ability to customize the portlet.

The portlet complies with the Outline Processor Markup Language (OPML) standards for subscription management and supports the export of feeds to an OPML compliant file and import of multiple feeds into the portlet from an OPML URL.
