Add vertical cluster members to a static cluster on AIX

Overview

Add vertical cluster members to share the workload demands of a cluster across multiple members running on the same physical machine.

Add a vertical cluster member

  1. Log onto the dmgr console and go to...

Servers | Clusters | WebSphere application server clusters | cluster_name | Cluster members | New

Define the name of cluster member. Do not use spaces.

Select an existing node where WebSphere Portal is installed.

    Check the box:

    Generate Unique HTTP Ports

  2. Click Add Member and then click Next to view the summary.

  3. Update the virtual host entries for the new port created when adding a cluster member.

You can do this by updating the default_host virtual host, adding a new alias entry for the port number. Use "*" for host name.

  4. Click Finish, and save the changes.

The new cluster topology can be viewed from:

Servers | Clusters | Cluster Topology

To list the new server cluster members:

Servers | Server Types | WebSphere application servers

  5. To enable cache replication, navigate to:

Servers | Server Types | WebSphere application servers | new vertical cluster member(s) | Container services | Dynamic cache service

Change Cache size to 3000 entries.

  6. Check the box:

    Enable cache replication

Select NOT_SHARED from the Replication type drop-down menu.

  7. Save changes to the master configuration.

    Click OK | Save

  8. To clean up the server-scoped resources, caches, and resource providers, on each vertical cluster member run:

      cd WP_PROFILE/ConfigEngine

    ./ConfigEngine.sh cluster-node-config-vertical-cluster-setup -DServerName=vertical_cluster_servername -DWasPassword=foo

.and restart the vertical cluster member referenced in the cluster-node-config-vertical-cluster-setup task.

  9. Save to master repository

  10. Resynchronize the nodes:

System Administration | Nodes | node | Full Resynchronize

  11. Regenerate the web server plug-in (plugin-cfg.xml)

  12. For remote web servers, copy the updated plug-in configuration file to the web server's plug-in configuration directory.

  13. Restart the web server.
