Defining application parameters

Parameters define default values that are used to configure the components in each application created from a template. Parameters defined in the template correspond to the property values of application components. Using the Parameters portlet, you specify the parameters of the application components by assigning default property values for each component.

Use the Parameters portlet to view and edit application parameters.

View application parameters

From the list of parameters defined by a given application template, you can view the name, description, value, and the source of the value of each parameter.

Edit application parameters

When you edit a parameter definition in the application template, you specify how its value is assigned. You cannot delete parameters because they are provided by the application components defined by the application template and used in the particular applications that are assembled from the template.

The application template stores the configuration and deployment variables of its components as parameters. Application parameters are defined by the application template and provided by the application and its components. All parameters correspond to the editable component properties that can be modified by application users who have permission to edit the application.

From the Edit Parameters: parameter name page...

  1. View the Description of the parameter to verify the component that provides the parameter in the application.

  2. In the User prompt field, type the text that will appear as the component property name in the application.

  3. In the Default value field, keep the default value or type a new value.

  4. Click OK to save your changes to the parameter value assignment.
