Create custom filters for tasks
You can customize the default filters for the Task List portlet. First, you should understand how the default filter sets and filters for tasks are specified for the Task List portlet. Then you can create additional task filter sets and filters that provide specialized views of tasks for users to apply in their particular work contexts.
The Task List portlet allows you to filter the tasks for individual users based on meta information associated with the tasks or their corresponding processes. As a result, users can work with specialized task lists that hide tasks that are not relevant to a specific context, effectively making the task list easier to use.
The default configuration of the Task List portlet uses a filter set that provides three task filters:
- All Tasks shows the tasks that the current user can claim or has already claimed.
- Tasks Not Claimed shows the tasks that could be claimed by the current user.
- Claimed Tasks shows the tasks claimed by the current user.
The available task filters are configured as custom properties of the Portal Configuration Service resource environment provider. When you configure the Task List portlet, you can select a task filter set that adapts the Task List to a specific application context. If you define several task filter sets, you can then create multiple clones of the Task List portlet. Each clone can apply a different task filter set to display the appropriate subset of tasks for the user's individual application context.

A task filter set is a named set of individual task filters that are available for selection in the Show list of the Task List portlet. After install the product, you initially see only the default task filter set, which contains the filters All Tasks, Claimed Tasks, and Tasks Not Claimed.
- Creating new filters for tasks
You can extend the default filter set for tasks by creating new filter sets and filters for tasks that appear in the Task List. By creating custom task filter sets, you can adapt the Task List portlet for different work contexts, cloning the Task List portlet for individual applications.
