Portlet Factory, Version 6.1.2

Upgrading from WebCharts v. 4 to WebCharts v. 5

GreenPoint software has enhanced and improved its WebCharts product by releasing WebCharts v. 5. IBM® WebSphere Portlet Factory Version 5.10 and later are designed to work with this newer version of WebCharts software. As a result, problems are encountered if you upgrade to WebSphere Portlet Factory 5.10 or later and attempt to edit a project built with an older GreenPoint WebCharts builder. You must upgrade the project to use Version 5 of the WebCharts product.

  1. Examine the WebCharts 5 sample chart styles that are shipped with WebSphere Portlet Factory. These styles closely mimic the styles found in the WebCharts 4 (for example, bar, radar, and pie).

  2. To examine chart types, locate the project WEB-INF/factory/samples/WebCharts directory. This directory contains a collection of files you can use to view available chart types.

    1. Load files with a .wcd extension into the WebCharts 5 Designer for preview.

    2. Load files with a .xml extension into the GreenPoint WebCharts builder for preview.

  3. In the WebCharts 5 Designer tool, load the sample style file associated with the chart selected above.

  4. Use the WebCharts 5 Designer tool to modify the chart to look like the existing WebCharts 4 chart.

  5. Access the source data used to generate the chart and reformat it for use with WebCharts 5.

  6. Remove the WebCharts 4 Feature Set from the project.

  7. Rebuild the project WebSphere Portlet Factory WAR to update the project and generate a new WAR file.

A WebCharts 5 chart now replaces the WebCharts 4 chart.
