In summary, developing a portlet with the IBM® WebSphere Portlet Factory consists of these general steps:

1. Create a project that implements the portlet functionality using WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer to model and profile the application.

   For IBM WebSphere Portal portlets, you can also create customized Configure and Edit functionality with WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer.

2. In WebSphere Portlet Factory Designer, create a portal server deployment configuration.

   In the deployment configuration, indicate the type of portal server (WebSphere Portal 6.x, or JSR 168).

3. Use the project context menu to build the portlet WAR.

4. You can indicate in the Websphere Portlet Factory Project Properties whether to automatically synchronize changed files in the project with the files in the portlet WAR on the portal server.
