Perforce Windows Client

The following is an example of setting up a Windows Perforce Client. Some of the settings mentioned might not be applicable to your configuration. Translate according to your requirements.

  1. Download client:

    www.perforce.com/perforce/downloads

  2. Install the client only:

    Perforce User Install
    Client applications only

  3. Perforce Client Configuration:

Editor A text editor such as Wordpad
Username Name Assigned By Perforce Administrator

  4. Choose the defaults for everything else

  5. Create a folder on your PC to hold Perforce documents:

    1. Run Windows Explorer

    2. Create a folder under your C drive called \p4

      File | New | Folder

  6. Start the Perforce client:

    Start | Programs | Perforce | P4Win

  7. Create a new Client Specification
    ClientSpec | New

Create a client spec which reflects the depots you are interested in, for example development.username, and choose:

    Create/Update client using dev.username as a Template...

  8. Fill in the following fields:

    Client usage.username
    Owner Name_Assigned_By_Perforce_Admin
    Root c:\p4
    Option1 noallwrite
    Option2 noclobber
    Option3 compress
    Option4 unlocked
    Option5 modtime
    Option6 rmdir
    LineEnd share

  9. In the left pane, where it says "Client View of Perforce Depot", right-click on one of the available folders and select:

Sync | Sync to Head Revision

  10. That's it. You should now have copies of the depots on your PC.
