SAVBRM (Save Object Using BRM)

Purpose

The Save Object using BRM (SAVBRM) command saves a copy of one or more objects that can be used in the integrated file system.

Restrictions

1. For detailed restrictions on using this command to save objects by using name patterns in the root directory, to save objects in libraries, or to save documents library objects, see the Backup and Recovery book.
2. The SAVBRM command does not support optical files.
3. You cannot save QSYS and QDLS file systems using this command.

You can save data to an ADSM device by using this command. To save data to an ADSM device, meet the following conditions:

• You must specify the special value *ADSM in both the MEDCLS and MOVPCY parameters.
• You must specify a device that supports ADSM backups. You can only specify one such device in the list of devices. You can specify the *MEDCLS special value in the DEV parameter, which can select an ADSM type of device.
• You can save only user data. BRMS does not save *IBM type libraries to ADSM media. BRMS does not save IBM-supplied libraries that are considered user data such as QGPL, QUSRBRM, or QUSRSYS libraries to ADSM media.
• When you perform a save to an ADSM device, specify *NO for the SAVF parameter. If you specify SAVF(*MEDPCY), specify *NO for the Save to save file field in the referred to media policy.
• Designation of any release other than *CURRENT in the TGTRLS parameter is ignored and changed to *CURRENT.

In this example all integrated file system objects are included in the save operation using the device specified in the system policy.
