Internet Mail Box
Overview
Internet Mail Box allows your users to connect to an Internet-based mail server to receive, compose, and send Internet email. Internet Mail Box uses the JavaMail API 1.2 to support mail servers compliant with IMAP, POP3, and SMTP Internet mail protocols.
Use Internet Mail Box
With this portlet a user can send mail, receive mail, and view attachments. A user can also send and receive mail using a Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled browser. Users can point the portlet to any supported mail server with which they have an account and network access. To access Internet mail, users must edit the portlet and provide their username, password, and the following information:
- Mail protocol
- Specify either IMAP or POP3, depending on the protocol support by the mail server.
- Mail server name
- Specify the fully-qualified name of their IMAP or POP3 mail server for receiving mail.
- SMTP mail server
- Specify the fully-qualified host name of the server for outgoing mail only if it is different from the incoming mail server.
View attachments as HTML: list of file types
Internet Mail Box and Document Manager have a feature that allows users to view attachments as HTML files. This feature is useful if the recipient of a file does not have the program the file was created in.
The following table lists file types that can be viewed as HTML in the Internet Mail Box and in Document Manager.

Client requirements
This portlet supports browsers and devices capable of rendering HTML 4.0 and WML 1.0 markup. Other client requirements necessary to access the portal site might apply.
Server requirements
This portlet requires network access to a mail server that supports POP3 or IMAP Internet mail protocols.
Note: Some POP3 servers are not fully supported by javax.mail API, which is used in this portlet. For instance, Domino Server 5.0.12 POP3 cannot be used with this portlet.
Configuration parameters
The following configuration parameters are available in this portlet.
Parameter Value authMethod This parameter must have one of the following values:
- UsePW
- Users must specify their authentication credentials (username and password) on the portlet configuration page.
- UseSSO
- Users cannot specify the authentication credentials on the portlet configuration page. Instead, the portal server credentials are passed to the mail server for authentication. This option requires that the portal server and mail server share the same credentials for all users. Users will not be able to direct this portlet to a mail server where they use different credentials.
