Other information

  • Windows environment on iSeries

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux installs the documentation available with rpm packages into the /usr/share/doc/<package_name> directory.

  • If you are not able to find a particular command then you can use the whereis command to find that particular command, its source, and its man page location. This will work if you have the package installation path specified in the system environment variables.

  • If you know the first few letters of the command you are trying to remember then type those letters on the command prompt and press the Tab key twice, and you will get a complete list of commands starting with that sequence of letters.

  • Man pages are the best source of documentation for your Linux system. Type man and the command name as its argument to find more information for it.

  • Almost every command provides the --help option, which you can use to view other options provided by these commands.
