Formatting a disk unit

 

You can select to clear all data from a non-configured disk unit and write the sectors, which prepares the disk unit for use in the system.

Depending on disk unit capacity and performance, formatting a disk unit can take from several minutes to over an hour to complete, potentially affecting system performance. To format a disk unit, follow these steps:

  1. In iSeries™ Navigator, expand My Connections (or your active environment).

  2. Expand the System i™ you want to examine,Configuration and Service > Hardware > Disk Units.

  3. Right-click the disk unit you want to format and select Format.

  4. Follow the instructions on the resulting dialog.
