External load source disk unit

The load source disk unit is the disk unit that contains the initial programs and data that are used during an initial program load (IPL) of the system.

The load source disk unit is typically configured as an internal disk unit, but can also be configured as an external disk unit located on a storage area network (SAN).

For information on using an external load source disk unit that is located on a SAN, see the IBM® Redbook i5/OS® and TotalStorage®, SG24-7120.
