Enabling DHCP for Windows XP clients

 

The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) function for Windows^® XP clients can be enabled or disabled from a GUI graphical interface that the Windows XP operating system provides. To enable DHCP, follow these steps:

1. On the Start Menu, select Control Panel > Network Connections.

2. Right-click the appropriate connection name and select Properties.

3. Select TCP/IP Protocol, and then select Properties.

4. On the General tab, select Obtain an IP address automatically.

5. Click OK.

• Checking the MAC address and DHCP lease
  Windows 2000 and Windows XP clients have a utility that displays the client's MAC address and DHCP lease information. It also enables you to release and renew DHCP leases.

• Updating DNS A records
  You can follow these steps to enable a Windows 2000 or a Windows XP DHCP server to update DNS A records on behalf of the client.
