What's new for V5R4

This topic highlights the changes and improvements made to Ethernet for V5R4.

Support is added for 1 Gigabit Ethernet input/output adapters (IOAs) 5767 and 5768. These IOAs do not require an input/output processor (IOP) to be installed in conjunction with the IOA. Instead, the IOA can be plugged into a PCI-Express bus slot and the IOA is controlled by the main processor. The 5767 is a 2 port UTP (unshielded twisted pair) adapter which requires a minimum of CAT 5e cable and can transmit to lengths of 100 meters. The 5768 is a 2 port 1 Gigabit SX adapter which uses multimode fiber (MMF) and has duplex LC connectors. The 5768 can transmit to lengths of 500 meters. Both adapters support TCP/IP, 9000-byte jumbo frames, and the IEEE 802.3ab (UTP adapter) and the IEEE 802.3z (SX-Fiber adapter) standard.

Also supported are the 181A and 181C pluggable ethernet modules. The 181A is a 2 port UTP module which requires a minimum of CAT 5e cable and can transmit lengths of 100 meters. The 181C is a 4 port UTP module which requires CAT 5e cabling and transmits to lengths of 100 meters. Both of these modules support TCP/IP, 9000 byte jumbo frames, and the IEEE 802.3ab standard.
