VPN setup requirements

 

Use this information to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for creating a VPN connection.

To function properly on iSeries™ and with network clients, ensure your system and client PC meet the following requirements:

System requirements

  • OS/400® Version 5 Release 2 (5722-SS1) or later

  • Digital Certificate Manager (5722-SS1 Option 34)

  • iSeries Access for Windows® (5722-XE1)

  • iSeries Navigator

  • Set the retain server security data (QRETSVRSEC *SEC) system value to 1

  • TCP/IP must be configured, including IP interfaces, routes, local host name, and local domain name

Client requirements

  • A workstation with a Windows 32-bit operating system properly connected to your system, and configured for TCP/IP

  • A 233 Mhz processing unit

  • 32 MB RAM for Windows 95 clients

  • 64 MB RAM for Windows NT® 4.0 and Windows 2000 clients

  • iSeries Access for Windows and iSeries Navigatorinstalled on the client PC

  • Software that supports the IP Security (IPSec) protocol

  • Software that supports L2TP, if remote users will use L2TP to establish a connection with your system
