3270 Telnet client sessions

The 3270 emulation type allows you to access a remote system that has a Telnet server application.

Because the 3270 data streams are translated into 5250 data streams, the workstation devices operate as a remote 5251 display to the System i™ platform and application programs.

Starting a 3270 Telnet client session
When you start a Telnet client session using 3270 emulation, the remote system application controls your display station. You receive the same displays and enter data the same way as you do for other 3270 devices locally attached to the remote system.
