Troubleshooting logical partitions
Resolve logical partition errors efficiently using the troubleshooting advisor. You can also determine whether the server having problems has logical partitions so that you can more quickly find a solution.
If you have problems with a partitioned system, determine if the problem is specific to logical partitions or a general system problem. If your problem is specific to logical partitions, use this section along with the SRC finder to understand system reference codes (SRCs) and recovery action needed to resolve the error. However, specific recovery actions and tasks might require the assistance of the Technical Support Center.
- Logical partition system reference code (SRC) finder
Use the Logical partition SRC finder to find information about system reference code (SRC) messages related to logical partitions. You can find an SRC by name, or display a list of logical partition SRCs that are the most common.- System reference codes (SRCs) for logical partitions
It introduces a table contains the common SRCs that the PAL can report. Suggested corrective actions follow each SRC. If an SRC is not listed, it might not be related to logical partitions.- Determining whether the server has logical partitions
You can use iSeries Navigator to determine whether the server has been configured to run logical partitions.- Understanding system reference codes (SRCs) for logical partitions
System reference codes (SRCs) can appear on the control panel, the product activity log (PAL), the Main Storage Dump Manager display, in iSeries Navigator, or on various displays within DST or SST.- Viewing the product activity log (PAL) for logical partitions
You can use Dedicated Service Tools (DST) or System Service Tools (SST) to find system reference codes for logical partitions.- Finding system reference codes for each logical partition
Each logical partition on your system displays its own set of SRCs. Remember each partition is operating as an independent system and generating its own set of SRCs. You can use iSeries Navigator to find the most recent system reference codes for each logical partition on your server.- Resolving system reference codes for logical partitions
You can also use the Logical partition SRC finder to find answers to logical partition problems that report as SRCs.- Logical partition error messages and reports
You can obtain a list of error messages specific to logical partitions.- Working with configuration data for logical partitions
You may need to work with logical partition configuration data, typically, in order to recover from hardware failures, to correct errors, or to perform maintenance after hardware movement.- Situations requiring the assistance of a service representative
Some troubleshooting tasks on the server require the assistance of a customer support representative. These tasks are not common and are only performed if the support representative deems it necessary.
