Logical partition scenario: Scheduling movement of processing power

 

This scenario shows how you can dynamically reallocate resources based on workload peaks.

 

Situation

You are the system administrator for a company that has a partitioned 270 iSeries™. Your company has 4 partitions with each partition owning .50 processing units. At the end of the each month, partition 2 needs .40 additional processing units due to workload demands. The workload demands on partition 3 are minimal at the end of the month. Your 270 only supports 2 processors. What should you do?

• Use dynamic movement of resources to move processing power to another partition.

• Schedule the movement of processing power to happen monthly.

• Solution
  You must complete each of these tasks to move processing power and to schedule the move to occur monthly.
