Performing dynamic movement of resources
Dynamic movement of resources provides users the ability to move resources between partitions without requiring a partition or system restart.
To take full advantage of this enhancement, your primary and secondary partitions must be running OS/400® or i5/OS® V5R1 or V5R2.
- Selecting interactive performance
Interactive performance enables you to run jobs that require user interaction in contrast to batch jobs which require no user interaction. Each partition has a unique requirement for the amount of interactive performance.- Determining the amount of memory to move
To dynamically move memory, you have to establish a minimum and maximum range within which you can move the resource without needing to restart the logical partition. Changing the maximum value requires a system restart, while changing the minimum value only requires you to restart the partition.- Allocating processor power
The ability to move processor power dynamically becomes important when you need to adjust to changing workloads.
