Dynamically moving an I/O processor
A logical partition controls all devices connected to an IOP. You cannot switch one I/O device to another logical partition without moving the ownership of IOP.
On a shared bus, you can move IOPs from a logical partition without restarting the server. All resources (IOAs and devices) that are attached to the IOP cannot be in use when you move an IOP from a logical partition.
To move an I/O processor from one logical partition to another partition using My Connections, follow these steps:
- Ensure that any devices attached to the I/O processor you want to move are not busy. The devices should be varied off and listed as unavailable hardware.
- In iSeries™ Navigator, expand My Connections or your active environment.
- Select the primary partition of the system.
- Expand Configuration and Service and select Logical Partitions.
- Right-click the Logical Partition and select Configure Partitions. You are now working in the Configure Logical Partitions window.
- Select the partition that has the I/O processor you would like to move.
- Right-click the I/O processor you want move, and select Move.
To move an I/O processor from one logical partition to another partition using the service tools window, follow these steps:
- Ensure that any devices attached to the I/O processor you want to move are not busy. The devices should be varied off and listed as unavailable hardware.
- In iSeries Navigator, select My Connections or your active environment.
- Select Open iSeries Navigator service tools window in the Taskpad window. If the Taskpad window is not displayed, select View and select Taskpad.
