Scenarios: File Transfer Protocol

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) scenarios demonstrate how FTP is configured and used in the i5/OS^® environment. The scenarios help you understand how FTP works and how you can use an FTP environment in your network. These scenarios introduce fundamental FTP concepts from which beginners and experienced users can benefit before they proceed to the planning and configuration tasks.

• Scenario: Transferring a file from a remote host
  The scenario shows how to use basic functions of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to get files from a remote host. In this scenario, the client and the server are both using i5/OS FTP.

• Scenario: Securing File Transfer Protocol with Secure Sockets Layer
  The scenario shows how to transfer data to your partner company by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). With SSL, the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) client and server on System i platforms can communicate in a way that is designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, and message forgery.
