Types of message queues
The system provides several types of message queues to receive messages.
The system queues that you can use are as follows:
- The system operator message queue, QSYSOPR, contains system messages that require a reply from the operator.
- Optional message queue, QSYSMSG, holds several error messages.
- The history log, QHST, holds messages that track the system's activities.
- The printer queue stores messages that are associated with each printer.
- Each user and workstation also has message queues that hold messages from the system operator, from another user, or from another system.
QSYSOPR message queue
The system operator message queue, QSYSOPR, contains system messages that require a reply from the operator.
To handle a large number of messages that are sent to the QSYSOPR message queue or to the configured message queue, a message queue parameter (MSGQ) exists for the following line and controller descriptions:
- Line descriptions: Distributed data interface, Ethernet, frame-relay, token-ring, X.25.
- Controller descriptions: APPC, async, local workstation, remote workstation, SNA host, virtual workstation.
