In most cases, you should follow one of the other choices for uninstalling IBM® WebSphere® Portal Express. However, if the uninstallation program is not present or if an aborted installation did not create a complete and functional uninstallation program, you can manually uninstall the product.

A reference to uninstalling WebSphere Application Server is provided. Make sure that you follow all instructions for uninstalling WebSphere Application Server before continuing with the remainder of the steps in this section.

Manually uninstall the product:

  1. Windows only:

    Manually uninstall DB2...

    1. Run the DB2 force uninstall command...

      db2unins /f

      ...found under...

      install_root\db2\bin

...or on the CD labeled W-2 in...

      windows\ia32\db2

Do not execute the force uninstall command without checking the DB2 documentation.

    2. If required, perform the following steps to remove the DB2 user accounts and corresponding directories:

When uninstalling DB2, the DB2 user accounts and corresponding directories are not automatically removed.

      1. If it exists, delete the DB2 instance directory.

      2. Click...

Start | Control Panel | System Properties | Advanced | User Profiles

...to delete the user profiles for each DB2 user.

      3. Click...

Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | local users and groups

...to delete the DB2 users and groups from the directory.

  2. Linux only:

    Manually uninstall DB2

    1. When uninstalling DB2, the DB2 user accounts and corresponding directories are not automatically removed.

      To remove...

      1. Delete DB2 users...

        userdel -r user1; userdel -r user2

      2. Delete DB2 groups:

        groupdel -r group1; groupdel -r group2

      3. Remove the corresponding home directories for the users and groups that you deleted.

      4. Delete the DB2 registry when there is no other DB2 installed on the machine:

        rm -Rf /var/db2

      5. Delete the gsk installed with DB2 when there is no other DB2 installed on the machine:

        rpm -e gsk7bas

  3. Delete the directory tree for WebSphere Portal Express (PortalServer).

    Linux /opt/IBM/PortalServer
    Windows C:\IBM\PortalServer

  4. Uninstall WebSphere Application Server.

  5. Edit the vpd.properties file to remove related lines.

Do not delete or rename the vpd.properties file because the InstallShield for Multiplatforms (ISMP) program uses it for other products that it installs.

    1. Locate the vpd.properties file.

      Linux /vpd.properties
      /root/vpd.properties
      Windows C:\WINNT\vpd.properties
      C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\WINDOWS\vpd.properties

"Administrator" is the system login user used during installation.

    2. Remove all lines that contain the string that represents the installation location. For example, delete lines that contain the following strings:

      Linux /opt/IBM/PortalServer
      Windows C:\IBM\PortalServer

The default installation locations are shown in the previous list. The location for your installation might differ.

    3. Save the vpd.properties file and close it.

  6. Use the following steps to edit the .ITLMRegistry file to remove the related lines. Do not delete or rename the .ITLMRegistry file because the InstallShield for Multiplatforms (ISMP) program uses it for other products that it installs.

    1. Locate the .ITLMRegistry file.

      Linux /.ITLMRegistry or /root/.ITLMRegistry
      Windows C:\WINNT\.ITLMRegistry or C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\WINDOWS\.ITLMRegistry

The Administrator in this path name is the system login user that you used during installation.

    2. Remove all lines that contain the string that represents the installation location. For example, delete lines that contain the following strings:

      Linux /opt/IBM/PortalServer
      Windows C:\IBM\PortalServer

The default installation locations are shown in the previous list. The location for your installation might differ.

    3. Save the .ITLMRegistry file and close it.

  7. Remove entries that are related to WebSphere Portal Express from the native registry for your operating system. Use the native registry tool for your operating system to remove the following entries.

    • Windows:

      1. Read the Windows help system for information about using the Windows Registry Editor.

The following instructions provide steps for editing the Windows registry.

Before you proceed, note that your computer may not function properly if an incorrect entry or deletion is made. If this happens, you can restore the registry. See the Windows Help system for more information.

      2. Click...

        Start | Run | regedit

...to start the Windows Registry Editor.

      3. Delete all entries under the following key:

        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | IBM | WebSphere Portal Server

      4. Remove a Windows service from the Services list and registry by typing sc delete service_name at a command prompt. You can find service_name by going to...

Control Panel | Administration Tools | Services

...and viewing the properties of the IBM WebSphere services left behind.

    • Linux:

      1. Search for two entries

        • #rpm -qa | grep IBMWPS

If there are no matching entries when using this command, no further action is required for this entry. The resulting list of packages are in the following format: IBMWPScore 6.0-0

        • #rpm -qa | grep WebSpherePortalProduct

If there are no matching entries when using this command, no further action is required for this entry. The resulting list of packages are in the following format: WebSpherePortalProduct-6.0.-0
