Portal Express, Version 6.0
Operating systems: i5/OS, Linux, Windows
Choosing an installation source
Before you begin installing, choose the installation source location that best fits your environment. For example, you can choose to install from CD-ROM or from a file system.
You can download and assemble Portal Express 6.0 install images
Installation time can vary depending on the installation source you choose. You should take the local environment into consideration when choosing an installation source. You can install directly from the CD-ROM, copy the CD contents to the local machine, or copy the CD contents to a file server.
You must download, extract, and install the disc images on the same platform that is supported by that image. For example, if you are preparing to install on a Linux platform, download, extract, and install the Linux images on a Linux system.
Install from CD-ROM
This is the best choice when you are performing a limited number of installations.
The benefits include:
- No setup required to install.
- Provides an installation path when a file server is not available or slower than CD-ROM.
Copy CD contents to the local machine
This is the best choice if you are repeatedly installing the same product on the same machine. The benefits include:
- Not dependent on network or CD-ROM speed.
- The installation program automatically finds the CDs it needs to complete installation. Follow the steps below to set up directories for the CDs.
Copy CD contents to the local machine using the following steps:
The codes for the operating systems include:
- Create a directory for the product. For example, /wp610
- Copy the contents of each CD in to its own directory, named cd<disc_number>. For example,
- /wp610/W-Setup
- /wp610/W-1
- /wp610/W-2
- i5/OS = I
- Intel Linux = IL
- PowerPC Linux = PL
- Windows = W
On Linux, after copying, set read and execute permissions for users who will be doing the installation.
Copy CD contents to a file server
This is the best choice when you are installing on multiple machines. The benefits include:
- Installing from a network drive may be faster than installing from a CD-ROM drive. Review your network and hardware options to determine the best choice.
- The installation program automatically finds the CDs it needs to complete installation. Follow the steps below to set up directories for the CDs.
Copy CD contents to a file server using the following steps:
The codes for the operating systems include:
- Create a directory for the product. For example, /wp610
- Copy the contents of each CD in to its own directory, named cd<disc_number>. For example,
- /wp610/W-Setup
- /wp610/W-1
- /wp610/W-2
- i5/OS = I
- Intel Linux = IL
- PowerPC Linux = PL
- Windows = W
On Linux, when using a file server as an installation source for Linux systems, copy the CD contents from a Linux system to the file server. If you use Windows to copy the CD contents to a Linux system, file permissions and symbol links are not preserved and the installation will fail. Make certain the file server supports symbolic links and file permissions for Linux systems. After copying, set read and execute permissions for users who will be doing the installation.
