Backing up the Deployment Manager profile on i5/OS

This topic provides instructions on backing up the Deployment Manager profile in a clustered environment on IBM^® i5/OS using the savNdDm.sh script. The instructions describe running the script manually from a QShell session. You can also schedule the script to run periodically as part of a comprehensive backup and recovery strategy.

Before saving a profile, make a note of the current WebSphere Portal Express administrator password. If the profile is later restored, you will need to supply the WebSphere Portal Express administrator password that was valid for the profile at the time it was saved. Follow these steps to back up the Deployment Manager profile on i5/OS:
Start the QShell Interpreter by entering the following on an i5/OS command line:
STRQSH
Change to the tools directory by entering the following:
cd /QIBM/ProdData/PortalExpress/V6/Tools
Enter the following command to back up the Deployment Manager profile:
savNdDm.sh parameters
The command takes the following parameters as listed in the table, with these being required:

the Deployment Manager profile to save (-p)
either a media device (-m) or save file library (-s)

Parameter names are case-sensitive.

-help (-h)
Displays help for the command

-profileName (-p)
Specify the Deployment Manager profile to save.

-mediaDevice (-m)
Specifies a media device to save to

-saveFileLib (-s)
Specifies a library where save files are created to save the data. The library name must be 10 characters or less.

-logDir (-l)
Where to save log files for this command. If a log directory is not specified using this parameter, logs are created by default in /savRstWp60/profile/logs, where profile is the name of the profile whose data is being saved.

If you specify a path using this parameter, the command will create only the last directory in the path. The other directories in the path must already exist. For example, if you specify -l /wcs01/logs, the /wcs01 directory must already exist.
-cancelRestart (-c)
Cancel restart of servers. By default, all the servers will be restarted.

-forceDown (-f)
Force the Deployment Manager server down. If -f isn't used and server is active, the restore will fail.

-userName (-u) User name for Administrator account. You must specific a user name and password to bring down the server if security is enabled.
-password (-w) Password for user name specified. You must specific a user name and password to bring down the server if security is enabled.
-verify (-v)
Verifies the command. If this parameter is used, the command outputs what would be done according to the parameters being used, without actually performing the backup.
Examples:
In the following example, Deployment Manager profile wp01 is saved to media device tap01. Servers are not restarted after saving the profile.
savNdDm.sh -profileName wp01 -mediaDevice tap01 -cancelRestart
The following example is the same as the previous one, except the parameter short names are used and the -v parameter is specified to verify what the command will do before running it.
savNdDm.sh -v -p wp01 -m tap01 -c
