The response file
WebSphere Portal Express can also be installed or uninstalled from a command line through the use of a response file. When installing or uninstalling with a response file, the installation program can retrieve information from the response file that would otherwise be entered by the user, such as the directory where WebSphere Portal Express is to be installed .
Installing or uninstalling from a command line with a response file is well suited to situations where the use of a graphical installation program is impractical or not required or where you want to install or uninstall WebSphere Portal Express on multiple machines with a similar setup.
You cannot install two instances of the server at the same time, even in different directories. You must install each server completely before beginning the installation of the next one.
To install, enter the following command from the PortalExpress directory of the Quick Start Setup CD:
- Linux:
./install.sh -options "path_to_file/response_filename"
- Windows:
install.bat -options "path_to_file\response_filename"
- i5/OS:
- Remote:
install400.bat -options "path_to_file\response_filename"
- Local:
install.sh -options "path_to_file\response_filename"
- Remote:
where
path_to_fileis the full path to the response file containing the values that you want to use during the installation and response_filename is the name of the file.
Quotation marks are required around the file name only if there are spaces in the directory path or file name.
For example:
- Linux:
./install.sh -options /usr/WebSphere/installresponse.txt
- Windows:
install.bat -options "C:\Portal files\installresponse.txt"
- i5/OS:
- Remote:
install400.bat -options "C:\Portal files\installresponse.txt"
- Local:
install.sh -options "/home/installresponse.txt"
- Remote:
After installing with a response file on Windows 2000, reboot the system.
To uninstall WebSphere Portal Express, enter the following command from the portal_server_root/uninstall directory:
- Linux:
./uninstall.sh -options "path_to_file/response_filename"
- Windows:
uninstall.bat -options "path_to_file\response_filename"
- i5/OS:
uninstall.sh -options "path_to_file/response_filename"
where path_to_file is the full path to the response file containing the values that you want to use during the uninstallation and response_filename is the name of the file.

After uninstalling with a response file on Windows 2000, reboot the system.
A sample install response file (installresponse.txt) file and a sample uninstall response file (uninstallresponse.txt) are located in the root directory of the setup CD. View the sample response files for a list of parameters.
When you run the installation program, a response file containing the information that you entered during installation is automatically created and saved in portal_server_root/log/responselog.txt.
This response file can be useful if you want to install a similar configuration on multiple machines. By modifying a few parameters in the response file, such as the host name of the machine where you want to install, you can perform multiple installations without having to enter information each time.
