Operating systems: i5/OS, Linux, Windows
Accessing the authoring portlet
To access the authoring portlet, open the main menu and click on Web Content and select the Web Content Management tab.
Authoring portlet access rights
Access to the different views and items within the authoring portlet are determined by:
- The role you have been assigned for each Web content library.
- The role you have been assigned for each view within the authoring portlet.
- The access level you have been assigned for each Web Content Management item.
Required Java runtime environment (JRE) levels
The authoring portlet requires a JRE to be installed on the user's workstation. For a list of supported JRE levels for use with the authoring portlet, refer to Supported hardware and software for WebSphere Portal Express Version 6.0.
The Web Content Management Java applet
The first time you use a Web Content Management system you will, at some point, be asked to authorize a Java Applet. Click Grant Always and this dialog will no longer display.
If you ever receive an error stating that the "Web Content Management applet failed to load or is unavailable", you may need to reinstall the applet:
- Remove the certficate for the Web Content Management applet. For example, on a Windows system, go to Control Panel->Java Plugin->Certificates. See your Java documentation for details.
- Reinstall or update your JRE.
- Open a new WebSphere Portal Express session.
- Go to the Web Content Management tab.
- At some point, you will be asked to authorize a Java Applet. Click Grant Always and this dialog will no longer display.
