Lotus QuickPlace server installation and server setup reference

Use this topic as a roadmap to instructions for installing an IBM® Lotus® QuickPlace® server.

About the Lotus QuickPlace server

A Lotus QuickPlace server is an IBM Lotus Domino® server that has the Lotus QuickPlace server software installed and set up on it.

Because IBM WebSphere® Portal Express is compatible with several releases of Lotus QuickPlace server software, this topic contains no step-by-step procedures for installation. Instead, you can follow the links below to locate the correct procedure for your platform and for the release of Lotus QuickPlace you intend to install. Documentation for specific releases and platforms is available over the Internet on the IBM Web site, for download and/or browsing. For information on the releases of Lotus QuickPlace supported for use with the portal, see Supported hardware and software. Refer to the requirements for the relevant release of WebSphere Portal Express, and then see the Software for collaboration section.

In WebSphere Portal Express 6.0.x, Lotus QuickPlace release 7.0.x is the latest supported release.

The installation documentation covers the following basic tasks you perform to complete a Lotus QuickPlace server before you begin to integrate it with the portal site:

Usage restrictions

You are authorized to install and use Domino Directory solely and exclusively in connection with your use of Lotus Sametime and Lotus QuickPlace. Consult the product license for details.

Where to find installation procedures

The IBM Lotus Documentation Web site lists all documentation for all releases of Lotus QuickPlace.

The following table lists installation documentation pieces for the Lotus QuickPlace 7.0 release. The documentation Web site is subject to change, so if any of these pieces are unavailable, check the Lotus QuickPlace product pages for updates for your platform.

Critical choices for Lotus QuickPlace in a portal site

The following table lists choices common to Lotus QuickPlace installation on most or all platforms, with recommendations for use of Lotus QuickPlace with the portal. Because specific installation steps differ between platforms, the descriptions of the choices are general; do not expect to see the exact wording of the choice when installing for your platform and release. The options highlighted in this table are a subset of all choices you make during installation; in general, if not specified, accept default options.

In addition to these choices, before installation, see Planning for collaborative servers and portlets, which describes several common types of collaborative portal sites, and includes considerations related to platform, user directories, security, and performance. In particular, the Security and Performance sections contain recommendations for using IBM Lotus Sametime® and Lotus QuickPlace together.

Tip: Be sure to keep a record of all names and passwords you specify, and all directories where the installation programs install software.

Procedure Decision point Recommendations
Lotus QuickPlace server software installation on i5/OS Before starting IBM recommends that you set up the LDAP directory that Lotus QuickPlace will use prior to installing Lotus QuickPlace. This includes setting up the required users and group. Also, it is recommended that you use Lotus Domino Directory as your LDAP service. See Setting up LDAP for information on setting up LDAP for use with portal.

The Lotus QuickPlace server requires a dedicated IP address on your i5/OS system. Refer to the product documentation for more information.
