Set up the Common PIM portlets as remote portlets

To set up one or both of the Common PIM (Personal Information Management) portlets–Common Mail and Common Calendar–for remote use, set up two WebSphere Portal Express servers, the WSRP Producer and the WSRP Consumer.

To enable WSRP support for an instance of Common Mail or Common Calendar to be used as a remote portlet, add the parameter wsrp_remote_portlet to the portlet instance and give it the value true. You can add the parameter by selecting, from the portal main menu, Administration > Portlet Management > Portlets, searching for and selecting the portlet, clicking the Configure (wrench) icon, and following the instructions on the page for adding a parameter.

Due to current limitations, a WSRP Producer that hosts a remote mail or calendar portlet must be directly accessible by browser. If not, pop-up browser components used by the remote portlet, such as Spell Checker and the People Finder, will not work.

Checklist of tasks:

  1. Setting up the WSRP Producer
Set up the server that hosts remote portlets and provides them as WSRP services.

  2. Creating the remote portlet on the Producer
Create a remote Common Mail or Common Calendar portlet on the Producer server.

  3. Setting up the WSRP Consumer
Set up the server that displays remote Common Mail or Common Calendar portlets to users.

  4. Enabling access to the remote portlet from the Consumer
Give users access to a remote Common Mail or Common Calendar portlet.
