Navigating the authoring portlet

We use different views within the authoring portlet to perform different tasks.


The home page

The home page is a simple user interfaced personalized for the current user. The authoring portlet can be configured to either display a basic or standard home page.

    Basic home page
    The basic home page is designed for content authors who only need to create content items and other simple item types, and who would not usually need access to the more advanced library explorer. The basic home page will allow the creation of content using up to six different authoring templates. The authoring templates displayed are the favorites of the current user, the most recently used by the current user, and any predefined authoring templates.

    Standard home Page
    One section of the standard home page is used to create items and open favorite locations. Another section of the standard home page is used to view recent activity. This interface is designed for content authors who need to complete tasks such as creating content, editing their draft content and approving and declining content, but who would not usually need access to the more advanced library explorer.


The library explorer

The library explorer is a more advanced user interface than the home page. It displays different lists of items we have access to. We can select a library and navigate through the different item-type views within each library. We can choose to display an explorer tree to assist you navigate through the items in each library.


The navigation bar

When configured to be visible, the navigation bar is displayed next to either the home page or library explorer. We can navigate to lists of items using the navigation bar.

    Item views

    We use this view to quickly display lists of related items:

    • Use the All items view to select different views by item type and item state.

    • Use the Deleted items view to view deleted items.

    • Use the External links view to view links that have been referenced in link elements.

    • Use the Projects view to select different list of projects.

    Group by Views

    We can view filtered lists of related items from the "Group by" navigator:

    • Use the authoring template filter to display lists of items using the same authoring template.

    • Use the category filter to display lists of items that profiled with the same category.

    • Use the workflow filter to display lists of items using the same workflow.

    Personal views

    We use this view to display lists of:

    • Recent items, which are items we have created, viewed or edited in the current session.

    • Favorite items, which are items we have marked as "favorites".

    • Favorite locations, which are views we have marked as "favorites".

    • My items, which displays various lists of items where we are specified as an author.

    • My deleted items, which displays deleted items where we are specified as an author.

    • My pending approvals, which are items pending approval where we are individually specified as a reviewer.

    Open views and items
    Any views or items currently open are listed in the Open Views or Open Items sections of the navigation bar.
