Prepare the Installation Manager

The IBM Installation Manager is used to install packages such as HCL Digital Experience and IBM WebSphere Application Server. For an existing Installation Manager, start it and go to File > Preferences. Then, click Updates. Click the Search for Installation Manager updates check box. This box enables the Installation Manager to search for updates the next time we run an installation or update.

If we do not have an existing Installation Manager, then complete the following procedure:

  1. Start all servers and applications that require a port number to avoid port conflicts when installing HCL WebSphere Portal.

  2. Type ping myserver.mycompany.com on a command line to verify that the fully qualified host name is properly configured.

  3. Type ping localhost on a command line to verify that the network is properly configured.

  4. If we are installing on a server with a firewall, antivirus, screen saver, or desktop search engine enabled, disable them before installing. If we do not disable them and the installation program detects them, a warning message displays during the installation or the installation might fail.

Note: If we are using Windows Defender, it can cause installation failures. To avoid errors, add the C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\ directory to the ignore list. If we use a different temp directory for the installation, add that directory to the ignore list.

  5. Run the following task from the IIM directory: install.bat

  6. Run the HCL WebSphere Portal Setup file downloaded from HCL Software setup64.exe Right-click on the HCL Digital Experience Setup file setup64.exe. Then, select Run as administrator to start.

Note: If the language is not currently supported for the user interface, we might see the English version. For details on supported languages and the language codes for all of the HCL WebSphere Portal user interfaces, see Supported languages in the HCL WebSphere Portal 8.5 documentation.
