Importing promotion codes

We can import our own set of unique promotion codes from a comma-separated values (CSV) file.

Before beginning

Ensure created a CSV file that contains your unique promotion codes, adhering to the following guidelines:

• The CSV file must contain a list of unique promotion codes which contain alphanumeric characters.

• Each unique promotion code in the CSV file must be separated by a line break. That is, each line corresponds to a unique promotion code.

• There is no limit to the number of unique codes that we can include and upload within a CSV file.

• There are no duplicate promotion code values, or code values associated with existing promotions within the file. If these code values are included, the promotion codes are not populated during activation and an error message displays in the task summary.

• The promotion codes can contain special characters such as dashes (-) or underscores (_).

  Note: The following special characters are not supported:

  • Comma (,)

  • Double quotation mark (")

This CSV file example follows these guidelines:

Procedure

1. Open the Promotions tool.

2. From the toolbar, click New > Promotion Code Import.

3. Enter or browse to the file path of your local CSV file. The file size is calculated and displayed for reference.

   Note: We can upload only one CSV file at a time.

4. Optional: Enter a name for our imported promotion codes.

   Note: The original file name is automatically entered into the field and can be kept. Your imported promotion code name does not require a file extension. The summary report of the import task is displayed. This report contains any errors encountered when activating a promotion that populates promotion codes in this CSV file.

5. Click Save and then click Close. Your uploaded CSV file becomes a new Promotion Code Import file that can be associated and activated with a promotion.

   Note: Each Promotion Code Import can be associated with only one promotion at a time.

6. Verify that your Promotion Code Import file displays in Management Center. From the explorer view, click Promotion Code Imports. The Promotion Code Imports - List displays. Ensure that your Promotion Code Import file displays in this list. Promotion codes created within Management Center do not display in this list.

What to do next

• Create a promotion that uses the Promotion Code Import file.

• Activate your promotion. During the activation, the selected Promotion Code Import file is used to populate the unique promotion codes for our promotion to the database.
