Deleting attribute values from catalog entries
We can delete values from descriptive and defining attributes within catalog entries. This is useful when conditions change, for example, if the manufacturer no longer makes a product in a certain color, or a product is no longer available in a certain size.We cannot delete values from attribute dictionary attributes within catalog entries; we must delete these values from the attribute dictionary.
Before beginning
Ensure that the attribute value we want to delete is not associated with any SKUs. To determine which attribute values are associated with a SKU, view the list of SKUs for a product. If the attribute value is associated with a SKU, we must remove the association before we can delete the value from a descriptive or defining attribute:
- Delete the SKU.
- Add a new value to the attribute of the product and then assign the value to the descriptive or defining attribute of the SKU.
Procedure
- Open the Catalogs tool.
- Find the catalog entry containing the defining or descriptive attribute value we want to delete.
- In the Search Results view, right-click the catalog entry; then click Open to open the properties view for the catalog entry.
- Complete one of the following steps:
Option Description Delete a descriptive attribute value
- Click the Descriptive Attributes tab.
- In the Descriptive Attributes table, right-click the attribute we want to delete the attribute value from; then click Delete. Since we can have only one value for a descriptive attribute, we must delete the entire attribute from the catalog entry.
Delete a defining attribute value
- Click the Defining Attributes tab.
- In the Defining Attributes table, right-click the attribute we want to delete the attribute value from; then click Open to open the properties view for the attribute.
- In the Attribute Values section, right-click the attribute value we want to delete; then click Delete.
- Click Save or Save and Close.
