WebSphere Commerce Migration wizard
Typically, you use the Migration wizard to migrate WebSphere Commerce. The Migration wizard reduces the probability of errors during each phase of migration.
The Migration wizard is an interactive wizard that guides you through each phase of the migration process. The Migration wizard performs the following tasks:
- Outlines the best-practice approach to migration. You are guided through all steps of the migration process.
- Provides default values where possible.
- Hides the complexity of running the underlying tools.
- Reduces the probability of migration errors by performing the following tasks:
- Prompts to verify if you have created a backup of the database, ensuring that the running production database is not migrated by accident.
- Allows you to do a migration test run with certain restrictions to ensure that the production machine is protected.
- Forces you to change the Web server host name for WebSphere Commerce ensuring that the migrated instance uses a different Web server host name during testing.
- Reminds you to restore the database to a different location, ensuring that the production database is not written over by accident.
After the migration test run is completed, the Migration wizard can be used to guide you through to production. The original restrictions are not enforced and you can migrate the current database and use the current Web server host name.
- Provides a status tree that displays the tasks you have performed, the migration step you are currently in, and the steps to complete. The following color coded symbols are used to indicate the status of the tasks:
- A green check mark indicating completion
- A red X indicating failure
- A grey question mark for unknown. Indicates an incomplete step or task.
Click a completed tasks in the status tree to display a dialogue asking you to confirm that to revisit that migration step.
- Provides context sensitive help. Click the Help menu to assist you to perform the instructions.
