WebSphere Commerce Developer hardware, software, and network prerequisites

Each additional copy of WebSphere Commerce Developer requires an extra 3 GB.


Prerequisite software

Verify the machine on which to install WebSphere Commerce Developer meets the requirements listed in the following table:

Windows Vista Ensure that you have one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:

  • Windows Vista Enterprise Edition

  • Windows Vista Business Edition

  • Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Windows XP Ensure that you have one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:

  • Windows XP Professional SP3

Windows 2003 Ensure that you have one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Service Pack 2

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition, Service Pack 2

Windows 2008 Ensure that you have one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems installed:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Datacenter Edition

In addition to the required service pack levels, ensure that the system has all of the latest critical fixes issued by Microsoft.

To obtain the latest service packs and critical fixes, see the Microsoft Windows Update Web site.

Ensure that you have Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 and 7.0 or higher with the latest critical security updates, and the Adobe Flash plugin installed.

If the database server and WebSphere Commerce server are in different machines, the clocks for both machines must be the same. Clocks which are synchronized with each other will avoid the available order items being treated as future orders.

You might encounter permission problems when opening programs as a non-administrator on Windows 2008 and Windows Vista, with UAC enabled. To avoid these problems:


Network configuration requirements

The system must have a resolvable fully qualified host name. The fully qualified host name is the host name combined with the domain name.

For example, if the host name is system1 and the domain is mydomain.com, the fully qualified host name is system1.mydomain.com.

To return the IP address of the system, issuing the following command:

nslookup fully_qualified_host_name
