Configure the promotion engine
By editing the promotion engine configuration XML file, you can change a variety of configuration settings for the promotion engine.
- Configure the price adjustment base for promotions
Product-level discount promotions are applied to the standard offer price. You can specify how the promotion engine handles cases where the offer price that a customer sees (as a result of a contract, or a price negotiation with a Customer Service Representative, for example) is less than the price that would result from applying the promotion.
- Enable the best deal feature for promotions
When you enable the best deal feature for the site, the promotion engine automatically calculates the best deal for orders that qualify for more than one promotion in the same promotion group with the same priority. You can also minimize the performance impact of the best deal feature by specifying an upper limit for the number of promotion sequences to evaluate for each order.
- Performance considerations for the best deal feature
The best deal feature provides a way to ensure the customers get the best deal possible when their order qualifies for multiple promotions in the same promotion group with the same priority. There is, however, a performance cost for the feature because the promotion engine must evaluate a potentially large number of sequence combinations to determine the best deal.To manage performance impacts, you can raise or lower the default upper limit for the number of sequence evaluations per order.
