To set up our test environment, we performed these tasks.

  1. Use the HMC GUI to set up LPARS by creating profiles for memory and CPU allocation.

  2. Use the HMC GUI to create virtual SCSI and network devices.

  3. Install and configure the VIO Server

    • Mirror VIOS with backup/restore

    • Create storage pools for the client root volume group (rootvg) and application volume group

    • Create a shared Ethernet adapter on the VIOS

  4. Install and configure CSM on the management server

A sample CSM adapter definition file, p550q_lpar_adapters, is included in Appendix A, Sample files.

  5. Install NIM on the management server

    • Create CSM/NIM resources

    • Obtain the adapter Ethernet MAC address

    • Configure CSM input and add the nodes

    • Csm2nim nodes

    • Allocate NIM resources and start bos_inst from the mksysb resource

  6. Execute basic operating system installation and configuration

    • Install all required AIX filesets and GNU software

    • Configure AIX in terms of deploying NFS remote mount, SSH and IOCP

    • Preconfigure AIX in terms of creating the standard filesystem /usr/IBM on the logical volume...

      WAS_LV

    • Execute basic TCP/IP tuning

    • Execute basic AIX tuning...

      • ulimit
      • maxuprocs
      • alog

    • Create the mksysb for later installation of the other partitions

  7. Set up NFSv4 on Trinity using nfsroot and exname to share the /exports filesystem used to store the installation directory as well configuration files/scripts

  8. Monitor via perfagent.server installed on Brazos; client software is automatically installed

  9. Execute basic DB2 installation:

    • Install DB2 on Brazos as the DB2 Server

    • Install DB2 Client into the NFS remote mounted dir
