IBM WebSphere Commerce v6 operating system prerequisites

 Product documentation
Abstract
This page lists all operating system prerequisites for IBM WebSphere Commerce v6.
Content

AIX V6.1 To install WebSphere Commerce ensure that the operating system meets the following prerequisites:

  • Check your operating system level by issuing the following command:

    oslevel -r

This command should return the following value:

    6100-0x
where x indicates the maintenance level

    Fix pack information: http://www.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fixcentral/pfixpacks/61

  • Ensure you install WebSphere Commerce v6.0.6 or higher.

  • Ensure fileset xlC.rte 6.0.0.0 is installed.

  • Ensure that you have Mozilla Web browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system.

  • You have to take care of the time stamp, if the database server and WebSphere Commerce server are in different machines. The time stamp for both database server and WebSphere Commerce should be same

AIX V5.3 To install WebSphere Commerce on AIX 5.3, ensure that the operating system meets the following prerequisites:

  • Check your operating system level by issuing the following command:

    oslevel -r

This command should return the following value:

    5300-01

  • If the output from the command does not end in –01 or higher, you are at the incorrect maintenance level for WebSphere Commerce. Obtain the correct maintenance level:

    http://www.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fixcentral

  • If you are planning to install IBM HTTP Server as your Web server, ensure that you have installed the xlC.rte file set. To check if this fileset is installed on your machine, run the following command:

    lslpp -l xlC.rte

  • The following AIX APARs are installed:

    • IY67744 (DB2 Users only)

    • IY68989 (Oracle Users only)

    • IY58143

  • You can query your system to see if a particular APAR is installed with the following command:

    instfix -v -i -k APAR_number

    For example:

    instfix -v -i -k IY67744

  • These patches can be found at IBM Support Fix Central for AIX 5.3, at the following URL:
    http://www.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fixcentral

  • Ensure that the stack quota limit is at least 32768. To check the current limit, type the following command in a command window:

    ulimit -a

  • If the value returned for the stack is less than 32768, increase it to this level by running the following command:

    ulimit -s 32768

  • Ensure that asynchronous I/O is enabled. This is especially important for logically partitioned (LPAR) systems where asynchronous I/O is enabled on the first LPAR but not on subsequent LPAR.

  • Ensure that you have Mozilla Web browser and Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system.

  • You have to take care of the time stamp, if the database server and WebSphere Commerce server are in different machines. The time stamp for both database server and WebSphere Commerce should be same. The server times which are synchronized with each other will avoid the available orderitems being treated as future orders.

AIX V5.2 To install WebSphere Commerce on AIX 5.2, ensure that the operating system meets the following prerequisites:

  • The maintenance level 05 or later. Check your operating system level by issuing the following command:

    oslevel -r

This command should return the following value:

    5200-05

  • If the output from the command does not end in –05 or higher, you are at the incorrect maintenance level for WebSphere Commerce. Obtain the correct maintenance level:
    http://www.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fixcentral

  • You can also issue the following command to see if there are any down-level file sets installed on your machine:

    oslevel -rl 5200-05

  • If you are planning to install IBM HTTP Server as your Web server, ensure that you have installed the xlC.rte file set. To check if this fileset is installed on your machine, run the following command:

    lslpp -l xlC.rte

  • The following AIX APARs are installed:

    • IY65305 (required for Java™ Developer Kit, V1.4.2)

    • IY67743 (DB2 Users only)

  • You can query your system to see if a particular APAR is installed with the following command:

    instfix -v -i -k APAR_number

    For example:

    instfix -v -i -k IY67743

  • These patches can be found at IBM Support Fix Central for AIX 5.2, the following URL:
    http://www.ibm.com/eserver/support/fixes/fixcentral

  • Ensure that the stack quota limit is at least 32768. To check the current limit, type the following in a command window:

  • You have to take care of the timestamp, if the database server and WebSphere Commerce server are in different machines. The timestamp for both database server and WebSphere Commerce should be same. The server times which are synchronized with each other will avoid the available orderitems being treated as future orders.

Required detail

1. Updating Solaris operating system kernel configuration parameters for
DB2 Universal Database

Important
If you are using DB2 Universal Database with WebSphere Commerce, set the Solaris operating system kernel parameters as described in the following chart. If you are using a multi-tier configuration, only the DB2 Universal Database node must have these parameters set.
If you do not set the parameters as specified, DB2 Universal Database will not be able to create a DB2 instance ID. Once you have set the Solaris operating system kernel file parameters, restart your machine so that the changes take effect.

Log in as user ID root and use a text editor to add the following parameters to the
Solaris operating system kernel file, /etc/system. To set a kernel parameter, add a line at the end of the /etc/system file as follows:

set parameter-name=value

Do not leave any spaces at the end of any of the statements that you type into the
kernel file. Select the values for the following parameters based on the configuration that applies to your system.

Queue managers are generally independent of each other. Therefore system kernel parameters, for example shmmni, semmni, semmns, and semmnu need to allow for the number of queue managers in the system.

You must restart the machine after updating the Solaris operating system
kernel parameters.

Refining Solaris kernel parameter settings after installation
After installing DB2 Universal Database and WebSphere Commerce, and creating a WebSphere Commerce and, optionally, a WebSphere Commerce Payments instance, you can refine the kernel parameters using the db2osconf utility.

The db2osconf utility can be used to recommend more accurate kernel parameters based on the size and configuration of your system. The db2osconf utility does not change the /etc/system file and the system must be restarted in order for any changes to the /etc/system file to take place.

The db2osconf utility can be found under the /opt/IBM/db2/V8.1/bin directory.
For more information about the db2osconf utility, refer to the DB2 information
center.
