Abstract
Installation of WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0 after applying WAS fix pack 6.0.2.11 results in a missing WebSphere Commerce Test Server.
Content
The following installation guide was used to install WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0:
http://www.elink.ibmlink.ibm.com/public/applications/publications/cgibin/pbi.cgi?CTY=US&FNC=SRX&PBL=GC104255

Following the installation guide to install WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0, WAS can be updated to a fix pack later than version 6.0.2.5. If this update is made to 6.0.2.10 or later, before installing WebSphere Commerce Developer, the installer displays a warning similar to the one that follows :

After clicking Next, the installation proceeds and indicates that it completed successfully. However, WebSphere Commerce Test Server does not display in the Servers view when starting up the WebSphere Commerce Developer, indicating that the installation failed. In addition, an attempt to start the WebSphere Commerce Test Server through command line (WCDE_installdir/bin/startWCServer.bat) will result in the following message:

"The system cannot find the path specified."

Solution 1
Update WAS after installing WebSphere Commerce Developer

This solution applies to a new WebSphere Commerce Developer installation in which this problem has not yet been encountered.

The installation guide properly outlines the steps to installing WebSphere Commerce Developer with WAS updated to version 6.0.2.5. However, to run WebSphere Commerce Developer with WAS at a version of 6.0.2.10 or later, you should update WAS after completing the WebSphere Commerce Developer installation.

To run WebSphere Commerce Developer with WAS at a version of 6.0.2.10 or later:

  1. Use the above installation guide, follow the steps up to and including part 3, step 3: "Applying fixes to Rational Application Developer"

  2. Continue to part 3, step 4: "Applying fixes to WebSphere Application Server Test Environment". However, do not perform any upgrades higher than 6.0.2.9 as suggested by the following sentence: "For the most current list of required maintenance, see the WebSphere Commerce required maintenance Technote #1236356.". You must not install any fix packs higher than 6.0.2.9 before installing the WebSphere Commerce Toolkit.

  3. Follow the steps in part 3, step 5: "Installing WebSphere Commerce Toolkit".

  4. At this point it is now safe to install the WebSphere Application Server fix pack. Install additional fixes as suggested by the following sentence: "For the most current list of required maintenance, see the WebSphere Commerce required maintenance Technote #1236356."

Solution 2
Manually install the WebSphere Commerce Test Server.

This solution applies to an environment in which this problem has already been encountered.

To resolve this problem, manually install the WebSphere Commerce Test Server:

  1. Confirm that the wasprofile directory has not been created by searching for the WCDE_installdir/wasprofile directory. If this directory already exists then contact WebSphere Commerce Support for further assistance.

  2. Confirm that the Rational Application Developer home directory is correct in the WCDE_installdir/bin/setenv.bat file. If the path is incorrect, modify this file so that RAD_HOME points to the correct path. For example, "set RAD_HOME=D:\IBM\Rational\60".

  3. Run WCDE_installdir/bin/setup.bat to install the WebSphere Commerce Test Server.

  4. After setup.bat completes, verify that the WebSphere Commerce Test Server is installed by running WCDE_installdir/bin/startWCServer.bat in a command window. The WebSphere Commerce Test Server is successfully started when a message similar to the following displays: "Server server1 open for e-business; process id is 1234". You can also verify that the WebSphere Commerce Test Server is installed by running the WebSphere Commerce Developer and starting the WebSphere Commerce Test Server from the Servers view. If the WebSphere Commerce Test Server is still missing, contact WebSphere Commerce Support for further assistance.

Solution 3
Install the WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0 with a patch.

This solution applies to an environment in which WAS versions greater than 6.0.2.9 is installed and WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0 is not yet installed.

To avoid the above problem, install WebSphere Commerce Developer 6.0 by applying with a patch:

  1. Downlod the patch the following FTP site. When prompted, log in as the user "anonymous": ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/websphere/commerce/60/6000/install/LI71397_devinstall.jar

  2. Save the attached LI71397_devinstall.jar to a temporary location on your system. For example, C:\Temp.

  3. Navigate to the drive that contains the WebSphere Commerce Developer CD and run the following command to start the installation:

setup.exe -cp:p <temp>\LI71397_devinstall.jar
where <temp> is the temporary directory specified in step 2.
