Process: Negotiations
Flow
Objective
To allow customers or buyers to negotiate sales with sellers.
Description
WebSphere Commerce provides different trading mechanisms for the negotiation.
One trading mechanism is request for quotes (RFQs). The request for quote process is a business flow comprised of many stages or states that trading partners complete as they negotiate. The final state in a successful negotiation is a contract or order, as specified by the buyer. A buyer can create an RFQ for unique variations of goods and services that are offered in the catalog. If buyers cannot find a product matching their needs in the catalog, they can select attributes from personalized attributes dictionary to precisely define product specifications.
Another trading mechanisms is auctions. Auctions offer special advantages in the following situations:
- When you are uncertain about the size of the market and the willingness of buyers to purchase a product; for example, when selling used or reconditioned products.
- When a product's price has been set too high initially, and you want to determine a price based on market demand.
- When you want to promote new product lines or liquidate inventory.
