Reduce mean time to repair (MTTR) by ensuring that the operations team knows when incidents occur

PagerDuty integrates data from multiple monitoring systems into a single view. When a problem occurs, the PagerDuty configuration ensures that the team member who is best able to fix it at the time is notified. If the team member does not respond to the problem, escalations can be configured to route it to secondary engineers or operations managers.

Reducing MTTR starts with notifications. We can configure operations schedules to allow for 24x7 monitoring by an operations team that can span the globe. We can send notifications through the various integrated collaboration tools that PagerDuty supports, including SMS, push notifications, phone calls, and email.

By filtering information and notifying operations support staff when a problem occurs, PagerDuty helps to reduce application downtime. On the comprehensive incident dashboard, we can see which problems are assigned to which team members. PagerDuty also provides analytic reports that show the number of incidents, average response time, and the frequency of each notification mechanism used.
